Meet Aby

Born and raised in the community, Shane is a proud graduate of Thomas High School. He continued his education at the Institute of Alabama, studying Economics.

In 1991, Shane joined the City of Cities Police Department as a Police Cadet. After completing the Police Academy, Shane graduated to become a police officer.  He was assigned to several community-based programs, including CPD’s residential patrol officer unit and community response team, which allowed his to establish long-term and meaningful relationships with the citizens of Columbia.

Through his community service, Shane found his passion for working with youth. He became a School Resource Officer for Thomas Middle School and was eventually promoted to Sergeant over the School Resource Officers and supervised numerous Richland One Schools. He received various awards and accolades for his dedication to public service. Amongst his many accomplishments, he was named Officer of the Year for his region, granted the President’s Cabinet Certificate of Appreciation for D.A.R.E, served on the board for the South Carolina Association for School Resource Officers, and organized Safe in the City summer camps for City of Columbia parks. Shane retired as a Police Sergeant after serving 25 years with the City of Columbia.

Shane and his wife, Lisa Smith, have been married 12 years. They have 2 beautiful children, Pete, and Chris Williams. They reside in the Community and attend St. John Baptist Church,  and Andre is an Ordained Deacon and Shane serves as a Deaconess. 

Shane is a small business owner, and he continues to dedicate his time, energy and resources to serving the Lower Richland community and surrounding area.

Shane is committed to dedicating his efforts to community awareness and serving the citizens of Lower Richland.
